ORTHOTICS - About Orthotic Insoles by Powerstep®
The goal of Powerstep® orthotics, is to provide the most effective orthotic products available for preventing and relieving heel and arch pain. These proven products will stand up to the highest scrutiny from podiatrists and other medical professionals.
Powerstep® was founded in 1991 by Dr. Les Appel, a podiatrist, foot surgeon and runner since 1977. With over 35 years of experience, Dr. Appel has prescribed and created thousands of custom orthotics. After many years of analyzing thousands of casts, it became apparent that there were more similarities than differences in the shapes that solved most people's foot discomfort. Dr. Appel realized that many podiatrists and consumers would appreciate a pre-fabricated orthotic product that would effectively relieve most heel and arch pain, but would not require the expense or inconvenience of custom orthotics.
Powerstep® orthotics incorporate the average dimensions obtained through computer analysis of thousands of feet. The material, polypropylene, was chosen for its excellent shape retention and its ability to combine flexibility with sufficient support to alleviate discomfort. The first Powerstep® was sold in 1992 to podiatrists and running store specialty retailers nation-wide.
A new and improved Full-Length version of Powerstep® and made its first appearance in October, 1997, with four unique features which soon made it the preferred pre-fabricated arch support for common foot pain among many podiatrists, retailers and consumers alike.
In March 2002, SlimTech™ ¾-length was introduced to provide versatile support for a “sure fit” in a broad range of shoes, and Arch Boosters™ was launched for those who need extra support beyond what Full-Length and SlimTech™ ¾ provide due to weight or severity of problem.
